I am thinking of switching sport by next year! and i am considering to take up kayaking and leave triathlon for good…haha! nah! just kidding…i’m planning to compete in an adventure racing event next year and kayaking is one of the main component for that so when i got an invitation to attend a kayaking clinic i readily jumped in!

Ternate Beach Resort

I was at the Ternate Beach Resort last May 25, 2012 for the the 1stLeg of the 2012 Philippine Kayaking Series. The event was organized by local kayaking pioneers Val and Didi Camara of the Philippine Kayaking Association.

The event started with the 22Km marathon race. ( So please note that in kayaking 22km is considered a marathon). This was held at the beach front of Ternate Beach Resort to El Fraile, a historic World War II rock fortress fronting Corregidor. Local fishermen from Baranggay Bucana : Remigio Abrogar and Jeffrey Sison won the 22Km category.

The event was also well supported by the local residents. The residents of Baranggay Bucana were present at the beach front loudly cheering for their kabaranggays.

The event also highlighted some categories fit for beginners like me. I participated in the Crazy 8s Fun Slalom Fest category and the 5Km Novice race.

Salute to the sun lang drama...

My kayaking partner- James Betia of JourneyingJames and I ended up 4th place in the Crazy 8s Fun Slalom Fest category…we were up against the muscled guys of Drago Pilipinas, a dragonboat group from Metro Manila (they won 1st, 2nd and 3rd..talagang kinareer!!!). I got so hungry after doing this short distance race that i left my poise in the beach cabana and i hurriedly lined up and grabbed my food in the buffet table. Well, who can blame me? The food is really sumptuous!!

Yuuum!

The participants rested for a bit before we proceed to the next event which was the 5Km Novice Race. For this category we ended up on the 7th place out of 19th participants.

Intense 5Km start..reminds me of a swim start on a triathlon race!!

One of the participants for the 5km race..

hiyaaaaaaaaaa!! I’m in my element! blue kayak, blue paddle, blue rash guard…anything in blue just makes me smile! haha..

Attending this kayak event made me understand the sport more seriously. I also had the chance of getting to know people from the kayak community.

Studio 23 crew with their most frequently asked question " So how was your experience?".."ME: uhhhmmm..my smile says it all!" haha..yabang lang ng sagot..chos!

Particpants and Volunteers from the Philippine Deaf Explorers..they also joined the Shalom Fest and the 5Km Novice Race.

I’m pretty sure that this kayaking activity will probably convert a lot of people to become kayaking fanatics! I’m hoping to see more participants on the next leg..
